places to go looking for essays
If you want to read what other teenagers have written this is a good place to look. You'll have to scroll through the large PDF to get to essays (they show up in several categories), but it's worth it. There is excellent writing in here.
I found a lot here at this general collection site. Many of them I didn't end up printing, not because they aren't amazing, but because they aren't ALL essays AND some of them are long (but still awesome).
Websites that publish essays:
All of these will require you to do some searching once you get on the site. Remember not everything is an essay.
NY Times (look in their magazine section, in their "Lives" series, search "best NY Times essays")
Atlantic (search "best Atlantic essays with a year and you'll get good results)
Grantland
Outside Magazine (sports related)
Buzzfeed (they collect great essays and they publish essays themselves)
Wired Magazine (these will be technology related)
Revision Strategies

-search "best __(fill in general topic)___ essays" and see what comes up.
Beware websites selling you essays. Those are useless!

- What tone do you want to have?
- Who is good at any/all of the above?
- Read something from that person and steal ideas in terms of: pacing, organization, diction, tone, humor, endings/beginnings
