Dear Students:
I am out at a soccer tournament today but you will continue the reading and thinking without me. Please find below links to articles I need you to read and annotate and respond to before Monday.
NYT Videos LINK for discussing Biases and Stereotypes (watch "Peanut butter, Jelly, & Racism" and choose two other videos of your choice)
"Science and the Art of Listening"
"Young Minds in Critical Condition" NYT Opinion Piece & Study Questions (answer in your notebook)
Here is the link to the Two Guys on Your Head podcast on belief and certainty
Think about the connections between the articles and videos above. Respond (in your notebook) to how we can apply this information to our class community and how it might influence our class discussions. After taking notes, come up with rules for a class constitution. On your own you must come up with 5 original ideas to include in a constitution we will compile and agree to together. We will use this constitution throughout the semester to govern and instruct discussions both formal and informal, large and small. When graded on your participation, I will use this constitution as a guide for what grade you have earned. Please be specific and not vague in your rules (e.g., Everyone participates is not specific enough to offer constructive direction for how we can create a engaged and interesting environment for discussions).
